on July 19th, 2011 in News by The Brewster Trust
THE BREWSTER TRUST – “Football for everybody” at the Holiday Camp 2011
THE BREWSTER TRUST’s first public programme in Barbados still meets with children’s approval.
THE BREWSTER TRUST’s Inaugural Football Holiday Camp 2011 is for girls, boys and also for children with disabilities. It started on July 4th 2011 with a coaching course for 42 local football coaches. Last week 120 children aged seven to ten years have been coached at the FIFA approved UWI artificial turf football field at Paradise Park, The Lazaretto, from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm daily.
The week has been exciting with impressive statistics: 120 registered children, 12.5% girls, 99 footballers came on every day for the whole week, the overall participation has been 91%. The programme for the younger age group closed last Friday with an Award Ceremony. The Arsenal coaches Steve Eadon, Adam Tarrant, Ognjen Soskic and Nathaniel Brewster, Vice-President and co-founder of The Brewster Trust, but also local coaches who assisted during the week handed over trophies for the most outstanding boy, the most outstanding girl and a fair play award for each of the four groups as well as the medals for the daily competitions. All participants got some branded memorabilia like a mini-football, t-shirt, medal or sticker.
Age groups
Coaching elements has been multifarious, with a daily competition and based on the session, basic passing techniques, dribbling and turning at speed, slalom, turns, control and heading sessions including aerial control. Axel Bernhardt, CEO of THE BREWSTER TRUST, states: “With our programmes we offer access to football to everybody, also beginners – including fun and surprises. The focus is on the single child and so we are working with clear structures especially with regards to age groups.” In the actual week 130 children aged eleven to fourteen are in the camp and the programme closes next week with nearly hundred children aged fifteen to eighteen including the women’s U-20 National Team and the men’s U-17 National Team.
About the camp
The Inaugural Football Holiday comes complete with camp basics but also includes extras for parental comfort and focus on the children like participant insurance coverage, ambulance service, physiotherapist, hot healthy lunches and afternoon fruit breaks; Camp Partner Barbados Bottling Company takes care of isotonic beverages offering Powerade.
The camp is offered free of charge, the registration free of BDS$ 20.00 is fully refundable after five days participation.
Registration closed
THE BREWSTER TRUST still gets requests for registration, but the registration period closed on July 8th 2011. Axel Bernhardt says: “Honestly it hurts to send away dressed-up children and their parents in the morning who just would like to join the programme, but we are responsible for a smooth and safe course.”
THE BREWSTER TRUST’s camp partners for the Inaugural Football Holiday Camp 2011 are Arsenal FC, The University of the West Indies, The Barbados Football Association and the Barbados Bottling Company.
