THE BREWSTER TRUST – “Football for everybody” at the Holiday Camp 2011

THE BREWSTER TRUST closed the Inaugural Football Holiday Camp 2011 with the last age group 15-18 last week.

THE BREWSTER TRUST’s Inaugural Football Holiday Camp 2011 was for girls, for boys and also for children with disabilities. It started on July 4th 2011 with a coaching course for over 40 local football coaches. In the second week over 120 children aged seven to ten years and in the third week 130 children aged eleven to fourteen have been coached at the FIFA approved UWI artificial turf football field at Paradise Park, The Lazaretto, from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm daily.
96 registered campers have been coached in the fourth and last week – 30% girls. THE BREWSTER TRUST hosted the Barbados U-17 National Team with 37 boys and the Barbados U-20 National Team with 21 girls – including members of their staff.

The programme for the age group closed last Friday with an Award Ceremony. The Arsenal coaches Steve Eadon, Adam Tarrant, Ognjen Soskic and Nathaniel Brewster, Vice-President and co-founder of The Brewster Trust, but also local coaches who assisted during the week handed over trophies for the most outstanding boy, the most outstanding girl and a fair play award for each of the four groups as well as the medals for the daily competitions. All participants got again some branded memorabilia like a mini-football, t-shirt, medal or sticker.

Awarded as outstanding players have been: Onisha Byron, Adrienne Forde, RoSean Brathwaite, Ocean Sobers-Henry, Shaquille Beckles, Jelani Keizer, Ricardo Bertrand and Brandon Worrell. The fair play trophies went to Nakita White, Damian Clarke, Len-Ross Davis and Dominic Parris.

Shammah Jordan got THE BREWSTER TRUST Medal of Dedication.

Awarded as most outstanding participant “Coaching the coaches”: Tito Beckles and Kirk Corbin. Although THE BREWSTER TRUST intended initially to award one participant finally two local coaches have been identified and got an invitation to the next Arsenal Gap Year programme for one month including accommodation in England as well as travel cost. Well done, congratulations and keep up the good work. Finally also a big thank you to all other local coaches who supported our coaching team over the programme. Much appreciated.

A big thank you finally to THE BREWSTER TRUST’s camp partners for the Inaugural Football Holiday Camp 2011 which are Arsenal FC, The University of the West Indies, The Barbados Football Association and the Barbados Bottling Company.

Consider discipline, respect and fair play for the game and we hopefully see you all on the pitch at one of our next programmes.
