Coach the coaches
The programme started on 2nd July 2012 with a coaching course for football coaches, 46 local coaches registered, the female quota has been 13%. 36 coaches or 78.26% took part in average every day and over 63% came every single day. Head coach for the coaching week was Anthony David who has been part of Arsenal in the Community for nine years and leads on Arsenal’s Positive Futures Programme and the BTEC programme which is a two year diploma in coaching football. Focus of this first week has been kick-up skills, turns, passing, games, but also safety or organisation. Elements of team building completed the programme. Over 20 coaches of the participants followed the invitation to assist the Arsenal coaches in the following weeks to execute what they’ve learnt. At the end of the programme the most outstanding coach will be awarded participation at the next Arsenal Gap Year programme in London for one month including accommodation as well as travel costs.

Over 95% attended so far every day the multifarious coaching sessions from 9.00am to 3.30pm. Set-up
The Football Holiday Camp 2012 comes complete with camp basics but also includes extras for parental comfort and focus on the children like health insurance cover, ambulance service, physiotherapist, hot healthy lunches and afternoon fruit breaks, isotonic beverages or shirt, shorts, socks and shinpads for every camper and not to forget a daily academic football session in classrooms. Axel Bernhardt, CEO of THE BREWSTER TRUST, states: “It was overwhelming and exciting to get the feedbacks after the launch of the programme in June. Within 20 days we had no spaces left in both groups of the age group 10-14, we also had to close the first group of the youngsters. We can see a big passion for football from the children and also from the parents indicated by factors like attendance, communication or punctuality.”
