Support for PYSA summer camp

Pinelands Youth Soccer Academy’s President Fernando Best and his team asked THE BREWSTER TRUST for some support implementing a summer camp in July 2015.

The charity agreed to donate footballs, shin guards, bibs, ball bags, ball pumps, FIFA Laws of the Game and t-shirts; and provided in close co-operation with POWERade sports drinks for the duration of the programme.

Camp report by PYSA

The first day of camp, we started with 41 registered campers. By the Friday of the said week, we had 58 campers. The campers were trained by Pinelands Youth coaches on a rotation basis who focused on skills and techniques and small-sided games. Ivor Cooke, a personal trainer from the community, also conducted fitness sessions. Various prizes were given out for behaviour on and off the field every day.

At the start of the second week, an additional 14 campers joined in. On the last day of camp, the campers had a tour compliments of the club’s sponsor KFC.

After the tour, an award ceremony was held. All campers received a Participation Certificate. Zion Jordan won Entrepreneur of the Camp. In the Juniors, Azariah Roberts won Most Improved Player and Shaqkem Browne won Most Outstanding Player. In the Seniors, Xavier Ottley won Most Disciplined Player and the Most Outstanding Girl Award was a tie between Jalise Bradshaw and Tamia Reece. Coach of the camp was Tito Jones.

The camp had 60 boys and 12 girls, 2 from St. Lucy, 4 from St. Philip, 5 from Christ Church, 1 from St. John and 60 from St. Michael. 6 were from other clubs and 8 had never played football before.

Each camper received a pair of shin pads and a Powerade every day.

Majority of the campers expressed their satisfaction with the camp and said they wished it was longer. The academy thinks that it was successful in what it set out to achieve. Play football and have fun.

We wish the Pinelands Youth Soccer Academy best of success on its mission.
