THE BREWSTER TRUST’s Football Holiday Camp 2012 has been for girls, boys and also for children with disabilities. It took place at Queen’s College with various age groups in the months of July and August 2012 for in total nine weeks.
The camp started with a coaching course for 46 local football coaches. The following weeks the charity hosted 137 registered campers in the first group of the age group 5-9 years, 152 campers in the first group of the age group 10-14 years, 41 campers in the age group 15-18 and 158 campers in the second group of the age group 5-9 years. 172 campers aged 10-14 attended for the final two weeks. So 706 campers took part in this year’s programme; some statistics: over 10% girls, nearly 20% rejoined from last year, over 20 nationalities, around 44% of the campers are linked to a local football team or club, no serious injuries and children of all 11 parishes attended — nearly proportional to the respective population. Not one of the planned 45 full camp days had been cancelled due to bank holidays or any weather condition, in total 7’260 meals have been served and finally over 80% of the registered campers attended in average every day. The Football Holiday Camp 2012 came complete with camp basics but also includes extras for parental comfort and focus on the children like health insurance cover, ambulance service, physiotherapist, hot healthy lunches and afternoon fruit breaks, isotonic beverages or shirt, shorts, socks and shinpads for every camper and not to forget a daily academic football session in classrooms. The courses have been held by coaches from Arsenal FC. Some very special moments …
