Holiday Camp 2013

After a successful Inaugural Football Holiday Camp 2011 where THE BREWSTER TRUST hosted nearly 400 campers in the month of July 2011 and the Holiday Camp 2012 with over 700 participants over nine weeks, we are back with the Football Holiday Camp 2013. We again analysed the feedbacks, did our homework and present a programme with extended courses, proven standards and new features. The Football Holiday Camp 2013 is for girls AND for boys AND for children with disabilities – football for everyone – and for the first time we integrate adults, a special request of many parents. It will take place from 8th July to 9th August 2013 as a varying programme on weekdays for a total of five weeks.

Organiser

The Football Holiday Camp 2013 is organised by THE BREWSTER TRUST, a registered Charity in Barbados. The trust’s mission is to promote, develop and improve football in Barbados with the aim of creating opportunities at all levels, especially for the youth. To impart the qualities of leadership, loyalty, sportsmanship, competitive ambition and the drive for academic excellence as well as discipline, fair play and respect is our ultimate goal, just as the fruitful co-operation with all national and international football stakeholders.

Three age groups

The two-weeks programmes are all about the youth. The training sessions are age group and performance related and following THE BREWSTER TRUST’s mission it is football for everyone straight from the beginner, full of fun and surprises.
Coaching in several groups – coaches are assigned to groups to encourage familiarity with the young people. The coaches will work with that same group over the course of each two-weeks.
Coaching elements will be multifarious with a daily competition based on the session, basic passing techniques developing the range and accuracy of the players, developing the players’ basic dribbling and turning techniques like dribbling at speed, slalom dribbling, dribbling with turns incorporated, control sessions and heading sessions including aerial control with the focus on using various parts of the body like feet, knees or chest, basic techniques of shooting with a development focused on shooting with various parts of the strong and the weak feet, 3 vs 2 and 4 vs 3 shooting sessions and mini matches or a tournament at the end of the two weeks. This will be followed by presentations to all players as well as “Most Outstanding Player” and “Fair Play” awards being handed out.
Besides the sessions on the field we will have classroom sessions with football as part of general literacy, indoor Futsal sessions and teaching the rules and laws of football.
We have been asked to further extend the programme, we will continue with two two-weeks programmes for the younger age groups but are able to host more children. When you register for the camp you have to choose only one group. It is possible to attend another two weeks, but only if space is available.
As a special feature we offer 2013 the age group 15+ also to integrate parents as well as senior players to the charity’s football programme.

Venue

The Football Holiday Camp is going to be held at Queen’s College, Husbands, St. James; security, drop-off and pick-up zones as well as parking will be organised; venue partner Queen’s College will provide changing rooms, class rooms, toilets and bathrooms – and of course a “lost and found”. “Coaching the coaches”

Nathaniel P. Brewster, Vice-President and co-founder of THE BREWSTER TRUST congratulates:

Football Holiday Camp 2013 - Most Outstanding Coach

Shonelle Stephen who received an invitation to the next Arsenal Gap Year programme for one month including accommodation in England as well as travel cost. Well done, congratulations and keep up the passion and good work. Also a big thank you to all other local coaches who supported our coaching team over the programme. Much appreciated.

And finally the Camp Family says thank you to our 11 coaches for 25 days with 851 campers – it’s allowed to be tired!

Football Holiday Camp 2013 - the (tired) coaching team

Consider discipline, respect and fair play for the game and we hopefully see you all on the pitch at one of our next programmes.

Coaches

The head coaches at the camp are alumni of Arsenal FC’s Gap Year Programmes. The Gap Year is open for young men and women over the age of 17. At the beginning of the programme Gap Year youngsters gain valuable qualifications in coaching, refereeing, first aid, child protection and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) whilst spending time coaching and teaching in local schools and community soccer schools in and around north London in order to build up confidence levels. THE BREWSTER TRUST is a partner of Arsenal FC and the Gap Year Programmes 2010 to 2013.
The coaches are under the special guidance of Nathaniel P. Brewster, Vice-President and co-founder of THE BREWSTER TRUST.

Coaching course for football coaches

One approach of THE BREWSTER TRUST is to have qualified and experienced people who are dedicated to football and are willing to share their know-how. Arsenal’s approach fits perfectly with this philosophy. Taking the examples of Israel or Kenya, Arsenal in the Community has recruited, year by year, several gap year students to coach football. This is what THE BREWSTER TRUST sees as one important element towards coaching the coaches.
Beside the coaching week from 8th to 12th July 2013 the participants are invited to assist our coaches for the following four weeks on a weekly or ideally a permanent basis to put into action what they’ve learnt. Each coach must be available for the training week and should be available for at least one additional “Holiday Camp” week.
In last year’s camp the most outstanding participant at the coaching course had been awarded a coaching participation at the Arsenal Gap Year programme for one month. THE BREWSTER TRUST selected two coaches, Tamisha Marshall and Renaldo Hunte, who will be with Arsenal FC the full month of August 2013.

“No sweet without sweat“
The most outstanding participant at the coaching course 2013, selected by the Organiser, will also be awarded a coaching participation at the next Arsenal Gap Year programme for one month which includes accommodation in England as well as travel costs.
